Leaving on A Jet Plane

..Don’t know if I’ll be back again.

NYC

Tomorrow (Friday) we leave for Connecticut and NEW YORK CITY!!! I am not sure you guys know just how excited I am about this trip. For years and years I have tried to plan a trip to New York, but something always got in the way. Now I am FINALLY going to the Big Apple for the first time!

My friend Amy is getting married in New Haven, CT on Saturday, so we are flying there tomorrow then taking the train over to NYC Sunday morning. There is so much to do and see it is hard to know where to even begin and how to pack it all into 3 full days! Here is our rough schedule for the trip, which is probably overly ambitious, but I want to do and see as much as possible:

Sunday

  • Train to NYC from New Haven
  • Drop off Luggage at Millennium Hotel Times Square
  • Visit/See Radio City Music Hall/Madison Square Gardens
  • Take a stroll through Central Park
  • Window shop on 5th Avenue
  • Empire State Building
  • TKTS Booth at South Seaport for Broadway Tix
  • Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty
  • Hit up Century 21 (Can’t go to NYC without some shopping!)
  • Chinatown?
  • Little Italy for dinner (yum, italian is one of my faves!)
  • Check out Times Square at night on the way back to our hotel

Monday

  • Up bright and early for the Today Show
  • Sean Kingston performs at Rockefeller Plaza at 8 am on the Today Show
  • Check out St. Pats Cathedral
  • MOMA Store
  • Greenwich Village and the Arch
  • Lunch somewhere (New York style pizza?)
  • Brooklyn Bridge/Brooklyn (check out Beacons Closet/Buffalo Exchange)
  • Hopefully Broadway in the evening
  • Dinner and Dessert

Tuesday

Tuesday is supposed to be rainy/stormy so I went with indoor activities:

  • NY Style Bagels! I have a love affair with bagels :)
  • Check out Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (I love the NYC Ballet having been a former dancer and hubby is a former musician/music teacher)
  • American Museum of Nat. History
  • Guggenheim
  • Lunch
  • David Letterman from 2 – 5 pm (have tix, but still up in the air about going)
  • The Met if not going to David Letterman
  • Madam Tussauds
  • Dinner
  • Serendipity (probably overrated, but one of my favorite movies)

I am hoping to fit in some shopping at TopShop, Forever21, and H&M while we are there, among other shopping opportunities :)

Any suggestions of what is worth it/not worth it in NYC?

I will be taking notes as you visit all of these fun places!!

As a Manhattanite, the only thing I would suggest is that I would try to re-arrange your list per area of the city. It would be a shame to waste so much time in a cab or subway going from one end of the island of Manhattan to the other. I would try this: The day you are doing the Today show, do Central Park and 5th Ave. and Lincoln Center. What you do is go to the Today Show, then take the subway up to the Park on the west side in the 60s, walk through to the east side, and then head down 5th ave. to window shop…it will put you in the perfect spots for amazing stores. Lincoln Center is on the west side of the park in the 60s. I would do that before even heading into the Park.

I was born and raised in NYC & if you’re in Greenwich Village looking for really good pizza, try John’s Pizzaria on Bleecker Street.

I also agree with the poster above, don’t waste your time and money on taxi cabs. Either take the train or walk. (good comfy walking shoes are in order in NYC).

My girlfriend and her hunny just got back from an NYC trip!! They had so much fun – even though it rained 2 out of their 3.5 days there!! BUT they did say at Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty, the crown is open – BUT there is a wait list that’s like til Oct now… Not sure if you were planning that or not!??! But you can still go and look!! Can’t wait to see what YOU do on your trip compaired to theirs!!
