Prescript(ives)ion Expired

I must say I am disappointed to hear around the beauty world that cosmetic company Estee Lauder will discontinue the manufaturing of the Precriptives beauty line. As one of my first and favorite cosmetics lines since middle school, this news didn’t bode well with me. AS of January 21, 2010, Prescriptives will be closing its ‘doors’ and will sell items online until inventory is sold out. I must say I always looked forward to their Christmas packages and my mom would pick one out for me every year for Christmas. Oh and their makeup brushes are(were) amazing! I need to replace a few of mine that Cooper got a hold of before they are gone. Is it weird that I almost want to cry that they are going out of business? Probably so. Anyways, here are some of my most loved products that I am tempted to snap up before they are long gone forever:

Anywhere Compact – comparable to the coverage you get with MAC Studio Fix without the risk of breakouts. Also can be used dry or with a wet foundation brush for a dewy finish.

Photochrome Foundation – I actually have used this as a concealer for daytime, it masks redness like nothing else without the cakiness.

Moonbeam Reflective Lipgloss – also comparable to MAC lipglass, but I always liked the sampler pack of colors around the holidays.

Longwear Kohl Liner in Slate – anyone who makes a nice looking deep grey liner is a winner in my book

Foundation Brush – I have GOTTA get another one of these before they are gone. Cooper managed to knaw the entire end of my handle and I have been ‘making do’ since the brush still works.

Powder Brush – I have had this same powder brush since the sixth grade and despite a little evil dog, it has held up almost like new with regular washings. Another must purchase for me. The best thing about these brushes is their durability and prior to going out of business they were guaranteed for life. I actually had two different brushes replaced by the company because some of the bristles started falling out.

All You Need Moisturizer – If I had the money I would buy every bottle of this moisturizer I could get my hands on. It is that amazing. I have used it off and on since middle school and have never found anything better for my oily skin. The only deterrent for me was the price once I started buying my own beauty products in college.

It is a sad, sad day in my beauty world. Anyone else love Prescriptives like I do (did)?

PS. Mom, you need some early Christmas ideas? There ya go ;)

Oily Skin? No Mas!

For as long as I can remember my skin has been producing enough oil to install an oil rig. For years I have tried unsuccessfully to find a foundation or product to control the oil without causing breakouts or feeling heavy on my face. Even those popular blotting papers never seemed to help because I would just end up layering on powder afterwards. Well, I have FINALLY found the solution! SmashBox PhotoFinish Primer Light is a miracle worker on oily skin. Not only does it absorb the oil underneath your foundation, it also fills in lines and reduces the look of large pores (which I happen to be ‘blessed’ with).

I usually layer on my SPF lightweight face lotion, then add a coat of SmashBox primer (with a foundation brush) to seal in the moisture and absorb the oil, then layer on my choice of foundation. Now that I have discovered this miracle worker I actually have a choice of which foundation to use. Liquid foundations used to exacerbate the oiliness and powders never provided enough coverage alone. I can’t quite remember how I stumbled upon this fabulous product, but I have been faithfully using it for over 3 years now and will never go back to anything else.

For those with not so oily skin, SmashBox also offers a multitude of similar primers for other issues such as wrinkles, redness, sunspots, and ruddiness. PhotoFinish retails for $36 and I can assure you it is worth every penny…and lasts me upwards of six months using it every day. Pick yours up from Sephora today and get free shipping with orders over $50, a free sample of Korres Eye Cream with offer code KORRES and a free sample of Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash mascara with offer code BUXOM. Bare Escentuals has also recently launched a mattifying foundation which I am dying to try with my SmashBox for the ultimate ‘no-shine’ face.

Product Review: Bare Escentuals

Oily, uneven skin? Then you will love Bare Escentuals, I know I do. I purchased my first Bare Escentuals makeup back in March and started out with the bareMinerals Get Started kit in light:

The kit comes complete with everything you need (in a smaller size) to see if bareMinerals is for you. Included are two foundation colors, one warmth (bronzer), three brushes (which are worth the cost of the kit!), and the mineral veil. After using my kit for about a week, I must say I was unimpressed. I felt like the color was all wrong and I wasn’t getting enough coverage. So I trekked to my local Ulta to test out some other products in the line. I decided on a foundation color one shade lighter (Fairly Light)  than was included in the kit and some multi-tasking concealer (Bisque). MUCH better and now I am in product love! I love the coverage I get from combining the multi-tasking concealer and foundation and the color matches my skin tone perfectly. Best of all, my complexion has improved and my makeup doesn’t run off my face by the middle of the day. I also purchased the blush in Giddy Pink and just a little goes a long way.

My only complaints about the bareMinerals product line is that the foundation seems to get used up very quickly compared to my old MAC cosmetics and the powder gets EVERYWHERE. After I swirl and tap away, there is so much powder all over the bathroom counter and sink. Perhaps I am just messy? I must say I give the bareMinerals products 4/5 PinQue stars and would suggest you try it out today if you are looking for a great new product!

Recessionista Nail Polish

If you love nail polish as much as I do, I know you will appreciate this. Makeup line ELF now has a nail polish line (along with some great manicure accessories)…and it is only $1 a bottle! Such an easy way to change your look without much investment. Nail polish is an accessory in my book and can change the look of any ensemble.

I will take one of each please!
