StyleBeauty: Precriptives Custom Blend Foundation

If you’ve been reading PinQue from the beginning then you’ve undoubtedly seen me confess my love for Prescriptives cosmetics. I was so disappointed a few years back when they decided to shut down operations (see my post about that here). Well, as you can imagine, I was ecstatic that they recently increased their online presence and brought back some of my favorite products. Along with their new site comes a team of online beauty advisors, the Px Beauty Geniuses, who will help you to find your perfect match exactly as they would at the traditional makeup counter!

I recently had the opportunity to try out the service for myself and found it much more convenient than traveling to the store. Right in the comfort of my kitchen I was able to video chat with Erica, a Px Beauty Genius who has been with the brand for over 10 years. After a quick consultation about my skincare needs, I uploaded a few photos so she could analyze my skin tone, texture, and needs. The whole process only took about 15 minutes and shortly thereafter Erica emailed me my custom blend foundation “recipe.”

From there I was able to enter my custom blend recipe in my account and order my foundation. I have been using the foundation for a few weeks now and I am more than happy with my experience. The shade blends into my skin tone and the formula I received both controls oil and clarifies. They even send along a travel size bottle perfect for on the go gals. If liquid foundation isn’t your thing, they also offer custom blend loose powder. That’s definitely next on my list to try!

Overall, I would highly suggest using both the Prescriptives video chat service (did I mention it’s free!?) as well as the custom blend foundation. Especially if, like myself, you have a hard time finding the shade that is just right for your difficult skin. It will probably take me 6 months or longer to use up my bottle (it’s HUGE!), but I will definitely be reordering when I do.

Not sure if Custom Blend is right for you?

Have you tried Prescriptives new video chat? If you do, tell me about your experience!

{I was provided a gift card for the cost of the foundation, but as always these opinions are all my own. I wouldn’t let you ladies buy anything that I didn’t love myself!}

StyleBeauty: Shine Free Face

Whether it’s attributed to overactive hormones or bad genes, I was not blessed with good skin. Most days my face is so oily it rivals the Exxon Valdez spill. What’s a girl to do? Find the right products to manage my uncontrollable pores! While the right foundation can certainly help, I can’t stress enough the importance of prepping your canvas with the perfect primer. Once you’re primed and ready, try one of these oil free foundations perfect for creating a flawless face.

Clinique Even Better Makeup – My introduction to makeup in middle school included a trip to the Clinique counter with my mom and today the brand remains a staple in my product arsenal. This foundation provides medium coverage while also working to even your skin tone. What more could you ask for?

Prescriptives Virtual Matte Powder – Another staple since my teenage years, the Prescriptives brand is back with a vengeance. Wear alone for light to medium coverage or layer over liquid foundation for full coverage that stays shine free all day long.

MAC Studio Fix Powder – As someone who struggles with a multitude of skin problems, I love the full coverage that comes with MAC products. Studio Fix is my every day go-to and much like the Energizer Bunny it keeps going strong all day long.

Benefit Hello Flawless Brightening Makeup – A new discovery in my quest for oil-free foundation, the Hello Flawless is just that, flawless. I received a sample of this amazing product with my latest Sephora order and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with both its coverage and oil-controlling properties.

Neutrogena Shine Control Makeup – Can Neutrogena do no wrong? This oil-free foundation offers medium coverage without weighing you down.

Precriptives Virtual Matte Oil Control Makeup – Have I said how thrilled I am to have Prescriptives back in my life (for those that don’t know, it went off the market for a few years during the economic downturn)? Virtual Matte was my go-to through both high-school and college and might be the ultimate solution to oily skin. I can’t sing the praises of this little miracle bottle enough.

Bare Minerals Matte Foundation – Looking for a lighter coverage to control oil during the day? Look no further than Bare Minerals Matte. This one is great for the gal who doesn’t like a lot of makeup but still desires the oil controlling properties of a powder.

BeautyStyle: All Eyes on You

People may accuse me of being much younger than my actual age, but with the gray hairs, wrinkles, and dark circles beginning to appear, I just don’t see it. With my denial comes a myriad of products marketed to cover, smother, and otherwise hide my aging skin. Thankfully I have searched high and low for the best and brightest (no pun intended) to keep your eyes looking lighter and brighter.

1} Olay Total Effects Eye Treatment – This pretty little swirl of eye cream is nothing short of a lifesaver. This miracle working product both reduces wrinkles and lightens the under eye area. I have been using it for a few weeks now and have noticed a significant difference in those pesky black bags under my eyes. Imagine the difference if I would just add some sleep to that routine!

2} YSL Touche Eclat – Yes, I realize this stuff is pricey, but trust me when I say it’s worth it. I moved from using a traditional concealer under my eyes to this and haven’t looked back.

3} MAC Paint Pot in Painterly – The paint pot makes a great eyelid base and keeps your shadows from shifting throughout the day.

4} Garnier Ultra-Lift Eye Roller – Just read the reviews for this eye roller and you’ll be convinced that it should join your product regimen. This little massaging pen works to reduce fine lines around the eyes and is light enough to wear under your daily makeup.

5} Boom Boom Brow Highlighter – Thanks to LuckyFABB I came home with this lovely little brow stick. This double-sided chubby pencil can be used to highlight under the brows, but I also love to apply it to the inner corner of my eyes for little pop.

6} Smashbox Photo Finish Under Eye Primer – I have sung the praises of Smashbox primers for years and this version is no different. Apply a dab of this under eye primer before using concealer (or even better the Touch Eclat) and no one will be the wiser that you went to bed at 4 AM.
