Who picks the hottest day of the year to run a 5K? Me! It was already pushing 90 and so humid by 7:00 a.m.

When:
Saturday, June 20th
Where:
Summer Breeze 5K, Freedom Park, hittin’ up the Farmer’s Market and Great Harvest and breakfast at Einstein Bros. Bagels (my fave!) The run was great, I ran the whole 3.1 and while I came in at 32 minutes instead of under 30, I am proud to say I finished strong and I will keep running and hopefully beat my goal time!
What:
Running Skirt and Tank – Tar-jay
Shoes - Mizuno
Highlights from the race (hubby was sweet enough to come out so early on a Sat. and support me and be the photographer!):
Stretchin’ Out

The run started and finished in beautiful Freedom Park in Charlotte:

Hydrating before the start:

Off we go!

Of course we started out on a pretty steep hill…and there were three more that were even worse throughout the rest of the race! Thank goodness for my upbeat ipod mix to keep me pumped up!

Here she comes….

Sprinting my little heart out towards the finish line!

Walkin’ it out and glad to be done!

Next goal: Work on speed training so I can come in under 30 minutes
Tomorrow morning I will be running my first 5K since high school! Needless to say I am a little nervous, not because I don’t think I can finish, but because I want to finish STRONG! Just put together my “Pump Me Up” mix for the race and boy it was hard. I had about two hours of music to start with and I sure hope it doesn’t take me two hours! I’ll be posting pics and maybe video from the race tomorrow, but for now here is my killer mix:
Glamorous (Feat. Ludacris) Fergie
Thought I would start out with a slow one to keep pace and of course a mood lifter ![]()
Gone Going (Feat. Jack Johnson) Black Eyed Peas
Hopefully I will be Gone, Going
Wind It Up Gwen Stefani
Just a good, fast paced tune
Bossy Kelis
‘Cause I am Boss-ay
Stronger Kanye West
“That that don’t kill me, can only make me stronger”
My Humps Black Eyed Peas
By far, the BEST workout song ever
Ms New Booty Bubba Sparxxx
Hopefully with all this running, I will have a new bootay!
Move Along The All-American Rejects
“Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
Move along”
Circus Britney Spears
You can’t go wrong with some Britney!
Cupid Shuffle
Down down do your dance, do your dance…AGH I love this song!
Boom Boom Pow, Black Eyed Peas
I got that boom, boom pow…
I Want You To Want Me, 10 Things I Hate About You Soundtrack
Something about this song just really gets those legs pumping
Tubthumping, Chumbawamba
I get knocked down, but I get up again, nothing ever gonna keep me down…
Closer, Ne-Yo
Hoping to be closer to the finish line!
Don’t Stop Believin, Journey
Don’t stop believin’ in finishing under my goal time, “Just a small town girl…”
Walk It Out Unk
Just a little cool down song
What songs are staples on your running mix? I need some new ones to add!
I have needed some new running shoes for a while now, but I am having a hard time determining which ones to get! I LOVE Under Armour products, and they have some new shoes out that I would like to try:
Has anyone purchased these yet?
Some other shoes I am considering:
Any suggestions for a running gal with a high-arch who tends to underpronate (Darn those years of ballet!)?
