Season 3 of Mad Men starts August 16th, and even though I am catching up on the first two seasons via Netflix, I L-O-V-E this show, the 60’s style fashion styling is amazing and really who can resist the eye-candy that is Don Draper? One of my favorite stores for classic fashions (and probably one of yours too!), Banana Republic, is teaming up with AMC’s Mad Men for a casting call where YOU can be featured on the show. Through August 11th, shop at Banana Republic and you will receive an entry code to enter a photo of you in your best Mad Men inspired style and a chance to win a walk-on role on Mad Men and a $1000 gift card to Banana Republic! During this time, Banana Republic will also be featuring window displays inspired by your favorite classic Mad Men looks.
Break out those vintage dresses, pencil skirts, pearls and scarves and get your Mad Men look on! While you’re at it go to the AMC Mad Men site to “Mad Men” yourself!
I have had several requests for some personal shopping, my specialty, and I am here to oblige. A work friend and fellow blog reader has been on the search all summer for a maxi dress. Not just any maxi dress, but one with sleeves. This seems like an easy feat, right? I mean maxi dresses have been so HOT this summer, but apparently not many people are self conscious about their arms because they are all strappy! There are some gorgeous sleeved maxi dresses out in the shopping world, but finding one at an affordable price was an even bigger feat. Here are my selections at all prices:

July 30th, 2009 (Can you believe it is almost August already?!)
Where:
Worky-work-working. Nothing I put on seem to fit right this morning, so what better than a maxi dress?! I can’t wait until we get moved and I finally have my own organized closet so I can actually see all of my clothes

Maxi Dress – Some cheapie store in Charleston, SC
Cardigan – Old Navy
Sandals – GAP (these have been a great summer staple this year!)
Has the lackluster economy robbed the luster from our manicures? One of the big trends for fall is matte nail color, a big change from summer’s popular neon brights. Popular companies like OPI, Essie, ManGlaze and KnockOut have gotten in on the action with colors like asphalt, cement, and ink. Essie has even gone as far to offer a mattifier for your manicure that can be layered over any traditional nail color for that ever popular matte finish.
I am on the fence with this trend. On the one hand (ha, ha) I think it looks like a 3 year old took a half dead sharpie to your nails…but on the other hand, something about the look is a little intriguing with the dark colors for fall. Overall, I am not sure this is a trend I will be joining in on, but with colors like concrete and asphalt I am sure all the transportation engineers I work with will be all over it. Will you go matte or stick with shine?
